It's come to my mind that parts of the code in, say, Unix, has maybe passed unaltered from one version or flavor into another.

Maybe some pieces of the source code of the ls command is the same, unaltered, than was written years ago.

Have any of you read or learn about this ?

What would be the oldest living piece of unaltered production code still running, passing from version through version of a program or system ?

Will the code we write outlive us for decades ?
